Scattered severe thunderstorms with heavy rain, strong winds and hail are expected, with isolated tornadoes possible, ahead of the anticipated arrival of Hurricane turned Tropical Storm Isaias. Showers and storms are possible starting Sunday morning, Aug. 2. The likelihood of storms increases Sunday afternoon and evening. The highest chance for storms will be north and west of New York City from about 2 p.m. until 11 p.m. Sunday. The area is at risk for a round of severe thunderstorms during the afternoon into the early evening on Wednesday, Sept. 4, before effects from Hurricane Dorian could be felt here to end the week. Major hurricane Dorian is expected to slowly approach the eastern Florida coastline late in the day on Tuesday, Sept. 3, before starting a days-long northerly trek that could affect the New York area with Tropical Storm-force winds at the end of the workweek.
