A single-engine airplane that departed from Westchester County Airport crashed into a transmission tower in Maryland, causing a massive power outage and taking hours for rescuers to reach the two victims inside the plane.
The Mooney M20J, owned by MFC Corporation of Washington, DC, left Westchester County Airport in White Plains, late in the afternoon on Sunday, Nov. 27, and crashed into the wires near Montgomery County Airpark in Gaithersburg, Maryland, around 5:40 p.m., said Rick Breitenfeldt of the Federal Aviation Administration.

Hudson Valley Man Rescued From Mining Tunnel After Being Trapped By 40-Ton Boulder
An employee at an area materials quarry was rescued after a boulder broke free and landed on his machine, trapping him 2,500 feet into a tunnel.
The incident took place around 1:30 p.m., Tuesday, Dec. 14 at the Wingdale Materials quarry in Dutchess County in Dover, said the JH Ketcham Hose Company.
According to Chief Ryan Sartori, of the JH Ketcham Hose Company, his department, along with Dover Ambulance, were dispatched to the quarry for the man trapped in a machine in the mine.

Worker Rescued After Tool Pierces Hand At Area Business
Firefighters spent more than an hour rescuing a worker who had a large metal auger through his hand and stuck inside a pipe at a Sullivan County business.
The incident took place around 9:19 p.m., Thursday, Feb. 18, at Ideal Foods, located 89 Mill St., in Liberty, said Liberty Assistant Fire Chief Mark Johnstone.
According to Johnstone, the worker, who was standing on a ladder, was working on a machine in the basement of the business when the auger, which was attacked to about 100-feet pipe pierced his hand and pulled his hand into the pipe.

Woman, 18, Injured In Accident At Swimming Hole On Ramapo River
An 18-year-old woman was saved from a remote "swimming hole," during a dramatic rescue by Town of Tuxedo police with the help of others.
The rescue took place around 5:30 p.m., Saturday, July 13, when Tuxedo police received a call that the woman had fallen 35-feet headfirst onto rocks below at a swimming hole known as the "bubbles," on the Ramapo River, said Tuxedo Police Lt. John Norton.
According to Norton, after taking more than an hour to get to the scene due to its remote location, officers had to strip down and swim in 20-foot deep water until finally locating the victim.
