Former Fire Chief Of Northern Westchester Department Dies: 'Exemplified Meaning Of Brother'
A former fire chief and Navy veteran from Northern Westchester is being remembered for his dedication to his town throughout his 53-year department membership. Robert H. Meyer, the former chief of the Pound Ridge Volunteer Fire Department, died on Tuesday, Sept. 12 at the age of 88, according to his obituary. Before becoming a firefighter, Meyer began his career in 1953 as an electrician in the Navy until he was honorably discharged in 1957. Burnt Food At Popular Northern Westchester Deli/Market Brings Fire Department
Just before 4:30 a.m. Thursday a whole contingent of dedicated firefighters responded to a popular Westchester County deli and market for a fire call but found instead burnt food. South Salem and Vista fire department were dual dispatched to a reported structure fire at the 5th Division Deli in Cross River, the South Salem Fire Department said. Car 2451 arrived on scene first and found the first floor filled with smoke and put out the call for additional departments to respond, they added. Pound Ridge Volunteer Firefighter, Mailman Peter Beccaria, 89
Peter Richard Beccaria, a longtime mailman in Northern Westchester and a volunteer firefighter in Pound Ridge for half a century, died at age 89 in Palm Coast, Florida. He was born on December 27, 1928 in Mount Kisco to Esther and Frank Beccaria. He attended school in Pound Ridge and Katonah and then served four years in the Navy in Korea. Peter married his wife Peggy in 1959 and had two sons, Michael and Patrick. He moved to Palm Coast from Pound Ridge in 2003. Peter was a rural letter carrier for 30 years with the United States Postal Service and was a member of the Pound Ridge Volunte…
