The season kicked off Saturday in most Putnam County communities with youngsters parading through the streets in their new baseball uniforms.
In Brewster, players met at Southeast Veterans Park and marched to Markel Field. Little League has been an institution in Brewster since 1952.
When the league originated, it consisted of four teams who played their games at the Garden Street School. More than 50 years later, the number has grown to 500 players from 5 to 18, playing in 200 games using 12 fields at six different locations in Southeast.
Brewster Little League will be hosting a golf outing on May 5 at the Centennial Golf Club in Carmel with all proceeds benefiting the Little League Scholarship Fund.
Philipstown began its season on Saturday. In 2014, Team Santos won in the majors division while Team Ambrose won in the minors division.
A week before the season began, Philipstown Little League hosted a cleanup day, making sure its fields were in tiptop shape for the upcoming baseball season.
Putnam Valley's Little League also kicked off its season on Saturday with a parade. Players marched from Putnam Valley Elementary School to the Putnam Valley Town Park where an opening day ceremony was held.
A golf outing to benefit Putnam Valley's Little League will be held on June 1 at Hollow Brook Club at 10:30 a.m. in Cortlandt Manor.
Patterson's Little League opened the season on Saturday with games at Peckham Field.
Little Leaguers play on seven different fields in Patterson and in Carmel.
