Two students, Monaco Pillai and Colin LaMoreaux, embraced the opportunity by recording videos of themselves at home during their free time carrying out the assignment, which asked students to put themselves in the role of someone whose job is ordering bobble head toys for a New York Giants game.
“This assignment allowed my students to use technology to support their understanding of rounding in the real world,” said LaMorte. “They not only had to correctly round but had to support their choice of which place value to round to. Discussions were focused on not ordering too many bobble heads, which would be wasteful, but also having ordered enough of the toys taking into consideration damaged goods.”
