Henry H. Wells Middle School art teacher, Irene Othmer had the idea to donate a portion of the portrait sales to the Wounded Warrior Project.
Twelve students were selected to each draw two portraits over a two-week period in December. More than 20 teachers requested pet portraits, which allowed the students to donate $350 from the portrait sales for the Wounded Warrior Project.
“Without reminders or coaxing from me, students came in during their free period to draw without hesitation,” Othmer said. "This project is win-win for our students. It has double benefit and value because it gives meaning to their artwork while improving their skills.”
Othmer and her students hope to continue their efforts by holding another art fundraiser in the spring..
