Putnam Valley Supervisor Candidate Oliverio Walks Away From Endorsement

PUTNAM VALLEY, N.Y. – Former Putnam County Legislator Sam Oliverio has just announced he no longer is seeking nor will he accept the Independence Party endorsement.

Sam Oliverio says he no longer wants the backing of the Independence Party in his bid for supervisor.

Sam Oliverio says he no longer wants the backing of the Independence Party in his bid for supervisor.

Oliverio was told in early June he had the Independence Party endorsement for town supervisor, according to a press release. When he found out the party also gave his opponent their certificate of authorization (which is necessary to run as a candidate for the Independence Party), Oliverio said he realized something was not right, according to a press release.

“This complete turn of events has really baffled me," Oliverio said in a press release. "As strange as it seems, both my opponent and myself were told that we both had the Independence Party endorsement. To say I am disappointed is an understatement. I have always run on my record and have always been able to secure solid and focused support from those parties that have supported me. This whole scenario makes for a very awkward and untenable situation. Therefore I will put my full faith and belief in my election for town supervisor to the people of Putnam Valley and not this particular political party. I am very confident and content to run on the Democratic and hopefully the Conservative line this November."
