Carmel resident James Klett was stopped on the Taconic Parkway on Monday, Feb. 27, police said. During the subsequent stop, while speaking with him, troopers said they “observed a strong odor of marijuana and alcohol emanating from the vehicle.”
According to police, troopers proceeded to administer standardized field sobriety tests, which determined the 28-year-old was under the influence at the time of the traffic stop. A further investigation determined that Klett was in possession of concentrated cannabis and nearly 500 grams of marijuana, police said.
A breath sample from Klett determined his blood-alcohol content was .08 percent, police said. He was arrested at the scene and charged with a felony count of second-degree criminal possession of marijuana and misdemeanor counts of criminal possession of a controlled substance and driving while intoxicated.
Klett was arraigned in the town of East Fishkill Court and remanded to the Dutchess County Jail in lieu of $5,000 cash bail or $10,000 bond. He is due back in court on Friday, March 3.
