State police troopers from the Brewster barracks spotted an Audi A7 located in a parking lot off Route 6 and stopped to check on the welfare of the driver on Sunday, Sept. 10.
During the subsequent interview of the driver, Manhattan resident Todd Balzano, police said that they observed an odor of marijuana emanating from the vehicle, prompting further investigation. Following a search by a state police canine unit, it was determined that Balzano was in possession of crystal methamphetamine and marijuana.
Police arrested Balzano and charged him with a felony count of fourth-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance and unlawful possession of marijuana, a violation.
Balzano was arraigned in Town of Southeast Justice Court and remanded to the Putnam County Jail in lieu of $1,000 cash bail or $2,000 bond. He is scheduled to appear in court next week to answer the charges.
