The arrest came about as the result of a motor vehicle stop on Route 311 in Patterson on June 13 at 8:27 a.m., police report.
The deputy subsequently determined that the driver, identified as Jeffrey S. Storms, was in possession of quantities of heroin and hypodermic needles, according to officials.
The deputy arrested the suspect, who was charged with seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance and two counts of criminally possessing a hypodermic instrument, a misdemeanor, police report.
The defendant was processed at the Putnam County Correctional Facility and released on his own recognizance pending a future appearance in Patterson Justice Court to answer the charges, according to officials.
If found guilty of the misdemeanor charges, Storms could face up to a year in jail and a fine of up to $1,000 for each charge.
