Police Release Info On Fatal Pedestrian Crash On Route 6 In Brewster

BREWSTER, N.Y. — A pedestrian is dead after being struck by a pair of drivers on Route 6 in Southeast on Wednesday night.

Shortly after 6 p.m. Wednesday, police were alerted that a pedestrian had been struck by a car traveling westbound on Route 6, just east of Route 121, prompting a lengthy shutdown of the roadway.

According to police, the investigation revealed that a 60-year-old woman from Southeast was traveling in the right lane of Route 6 when she struck the pedestrian, who was reportedly in the roadway. A second vehicle traveling in the left lane, driven by a 17-year-old from Danbury, “was unable to take evasive action and also struck the pedestrian," police said.

The still unidentified pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene.

During the road closure, the crash was reconstructed by the New York State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit. Police crews were assisted by the Putnam County Coroner, EMSTAR EMS, the Putnam County Sheriff’s Department and the Brewster Fire Departments.
