Austin M. Garafola, 18, was observed behaving suspiciously by a deputy sheriff in the Brewster Ice Arena parking lot in Southeast, authorities said. He allegedly tried to conceal something and the deputy noticed the odor of marijuana as he walked toward the vehicle.
The deputy found Garafola in possession of marijuana, a switchblade knife and a fake driver's license from Maryland, authorities said. He was charged with fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon, a misdemeanor; third-degree criminal possession of a forged instrument, a misdemeanor; and unlawful possession of marijuana, a violation.
He posted $250 bail, and was released pending a future appearance in Southeast Justice Court.
Garafola faces up to a year in jail and fines up to $1,000 per charge, if convicted.
