Connecticut authorities advised the New York State Police they were attempting to stop a Ford F150 pick-up truck, which subsequently entered New York State on Thursday, April 14, according to officials.
Shortly thereafter, the vehicle was spotted by a Village of Brewster police officer. The vehicle had fled when the officer attempted to initiate a traffic stop, police report.
The Putnam County Sheriff’s Office and New York State Police joined the pursuit, and the vehicle was subsequently stopped on State Route 6 in Carmel, officials report.
The suspect, identified as Daniel O’Brien, exited his vehicle and immediately began physically fighting with law enforcement officers, according to police.
He was transported to Putnam Hospital for injuries sustained during the struggle, police report.
O’Brien was charged with attempted assault in the second degree, a class D felony, reckless endangerment in the first degree, a class D felony, and resisting arrest, reckless driving and unlawfully fleeing a police officer in a motor vehicle in the third degree, all misdemeanors, officials report.
The defendant was arraigned in the Town of Carmel Justice Court and remanded to the Putnam County Jail in lieu of $50,000 cash bail or bond, according to police.
