A trooper was dispatched to the scene at about 8:30 a.m. Wednesday and found the vehicle on I-84 eastbound near the Harpers Ferry Road overpass in Waterbury just before Exit 26.

The black 2016 Ford Explorer was pulled over by the trooper, who arrested Alan Ready of Sandy Hook and handcuffed him, state police said. The trooper also found a handgun in the center console of the car, state police said. He was assisted by an officer from the state Department of Energy and Environmental Protection who was on general patrol in the area, said State Police spokeswoman Trooper Kelly Grant.

Ready was charged with threatening and breach of peace. He was released on $5,000 bond for an appearance in Waterbury Superior Court on Jan. 4.

The trooper was from Troop A in Southbury.
