Dutchess County Sheriff’s Office reported the arrest of Obed G. Mata, 24, of Poughkeepsie on Main Street in the Town of Poughkeepsie about 4 a.m. on Sunday.

A deputy sheriff on STOP-DWI patrol reportedly observed Mata driving a 2006 Toyota and stopped him for committing a traffic infraction.

Subsequent investigation revealed that he was intoxicated and he was arrested for DWI, a sheriff's department spokesman said.

At the time he was stopped, Mata had the 2-year-old child riding as a passenger in the car with him, the sheriff's office reported.

Mata was charged with DWI and aggravated DWI for having a blood-alcohol content of 0.18 or more, both misdemeanors as well as felony aggravated DWI under Leandra's Law for having someone younger than 16 years old in his car.

Mata also was charged with other traffic infractions. He was arraigned in the City of Poughkeepsie Court and sent to the Dutchess County Jail.

He is due to appear in the Town of Poughkeepsie Court on Monday at 4 p.m.
