Natanel Collado, 32, of Danbury, was arrested around 2:45 p.m., Tuesday, Jan. 21, after troopers stopped his vehicle on I-84 in Danbury, state police said.
When questioned, alleged inconsistencies in Collado's responses prompted troopers to conduct a search, during which they found 57 Clonazepam pills and a digital scale, state police said.
Collado was arrested and placed inside the trooper's cruiser. Once seated inside the vehicle, K-9 Favor, without being directed to do so, entered the front compartment of the cruiser where Collado was seated and placed her nose in his waistband alerting to the presence of additional contraband, state police said.
Troopers told Collado that K-9 Favor was a trained narcotics canine and asked if he was in possession of additional drugs.
Collado said he was in possession of two bags of cocaine hidden in his pants. The bags were found and 5.9 grams of cocaine were seized.
Collado was transported to Troop A where he was processed and later released on bond.
He is scheduled to appear in court on Tuesday, Feb. 4.
