The initial call was for a brush fire at the bank on Route 6N, sending the Mahopac Falls Fire Department out with a brush truck and support pumper.
While en route, notification was made that the structure was involved, authorities said.
Arriving units found the side of the building was melted. Plants and shrubbery close to the building were scorched. Staff at the bank saw smoke and investigated the situation only to find the fire was outside the building.
The fire was brought under control by a brave bank teller using two fire extinguishers as the fire units arrived on the scene.
