Arlington Fire Chief Tory G. Gallante said the origin and cause of the three-alarm fire, which started about 5 a.m., is being investigated.

One person was found dead at the single-family home at 31 Durocher Terrace, Gallante said. The person's name has not been released.

Firefighters remain on the scene, along with the Arlington Fire District Fire Investigation Division and the Town of Poughkeepise police, Gallante told Daily Voice.

The first fire department unit arrived on the scene within three minutes of the initial call and confirmed an active fire, Gallante said.

During the interior search, under heavy smoke conditions, firefighters found one fire victim who was pronounced dead at the scene, Gallante said.

A police officer from the Town of Poughkeepsie was taken to Vassar Brothers Medical Center for treatment due to a smoke-related injury and released, Gallante said.

Two adjacent homes sustained heat damage.

Multiple agencies responded including the Pleasant Valley Fire Department, City of Poughkeepsie Fire Department, and Roosevelt Fire District. LaGrange Fire District and the New Hamburg Fire Department were on standby. Mobile Life’s Special Operations Response Team also was at the scene.
