PUTNAM COUNTY, N.Y. -- Putnam Valley firefighters had to deal with everything from the freezing cold temperatures, to no fire hydrants while battling a house fire on top of a high, winding road Thursday, according to Putnam Valley Fire Chief David Anderson Jr.
The fire, at 31 Woods End Road, started about 7:15 a.m. and completely destroyed the home, Anderson said.
Fire officials were on scene within four minutes of receiving the call, but the home was already fully engulfed in flames when firefighters arrived, Anderson added.
One resident was coming out of the home when firefighters arrived. He was transported to Hudson Valley Hospital with non-life threatening injuries, he added.
Because there were no fire hydrants in the area, firefighters had to rely on tankers from several local fire departments to battle the blaze, Anderson said.
They were assisted by tankers and crews from the Garrison, Kent, and Mahopac Falls fire departments, and the Mohegan Lake FAST Team.
Anderson said the home was located on a hilly, narrow road which made it difficult for the tankers to pass each other.
The cause of the fire is being investigated by the Putnam County Fire Investigation Team.
