The woman, "who was petrified," began to talk with Renny G. Widrew, 46, address unknown, around 5 a.m., Monday, Sept. 2, in an effort to keep him calm, said Town of Lloyd Police Lt. James Janson.
"She was scared out of her mind and talked to the man until she had a chance to call a relative who then called the police," Janso said.
When police arrived at the woman's Highland home a short time later they found Widrew in the back of the residence asleep in her robe and slippers, Janso said.
He was charged with felony burglary, petit larceny, criminal possession of the stolen property, and criminal mischief.
Widrew was arraigned before Town of Lloyd Judge Elia and remanded to the Ulster County Jail on $50,000 cash bail or $100,000 insurance bond.
He is due back in the Town of Lloyd Court on Thursday, Sept. 5.
