Smeriglio was born in Beacon, N.Y., on April 25, 1929, to Ralph and Katherine Balser Smeriglio. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.
He was predeceased by his first wife, Rita Smeriglio, who died in May of 1999.
He later married Kathleen Kelly, who survives.
Smeriglio was the proprietor of Oregon Hardware in Putnam Valley for more than 40 years. He also served as president of the Putnam Valley Chamber of Commerce in the 1980s and 1990s, a division of what is now the Hudson Valley Gateway Chamber of Commerce, and was a member of the Knights of Columbus in East Durham, N.Y.
In addition to his wife, he is also survived by two daughters, Rita Sharples of Cortlandt Manor, Carman Johnson of Beacon; his grandchildren, Lawrence Sharples and Karl Rennalls; and his stepchildren Robert, John, Barbara, Tim and Michael Lippert.
Besides his first wife, he is also predeceased by a brother, Warren Smeriglio, and two stepchildren, Jim and Kathy.
Friends may call Thursday from 7-9 p.m. at the Joseph F. Nardone Funeral Home, 414 Washington St., Peekskill. A funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday at 10 a.m. at Assumption Church, 131 Union Ave., Peekskill. Burial will take place in Assumption Cemetery.
Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society or the National Kidney Foundation.
