John T. Duane, 72, Of Carmel, Vietnam War Veteran

CARMEL, N.Y. - John T. Duane of Carmel died June 26. He was 72.

Duane was born Oct. 31, 1941, to William and Mary (nee Walsh) Duane in the Bronx. During the Vietnam Era, he served with the United States Army. He was a shop steward for UPS in Elmsford. Since 1976 he and Mary have lived in the Carmel area and before that in the Bronx. He was very active in his community, and was also, a volunteer firefighter for the Carmel Fire Department, in Carmel.

Duane is survived by his wife, Mary; children, Donna Jaeshke and Michael Duane; two grandchildren; brothers, William Duane and James Duane; and sisters, Anne Duane, Kathy Dillon and Ellen King.

Calling hours are Monday, June 30 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at Cargain Funeral Homes, Inc., 10 Fowler Ave., Carmel, NY 10512 (845)225-3672. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Tuesday, July 1 at St. James the Apostle R.C. Church, 14 Gleneida Ave., Carmel, NY 10512. Interment will follow at Raymond Hill Cemetery.
