With 100 percent of the vote in, Tendy defeated Levy 1,361 votes to 1,094 votes, 55.26 percent to 44.42 percent, according to unofficial results from the Putnam County Board of Elections.

"Voters were not swayed by a high priced and glossy ad campaign," Tendy, who serves as Putnam Valley Supervisor, said. "They voted on the issues and the merits of the candidates and not on how much money a candidate had."

Tendy said he ran an informative campaign that respected the voters and was not a negative campaign.

Levy, who remains on the Conservative, Reform and Independence lines, said he plans on continuing his campaign. Tendy said he plans on meeting voters and doing what needs to be done.

Tendy said he expects Levy to continue to run a negative campaign. Levy, who is the son of Judith Sheindlin, TV's "Judge Judy," attempted to get Tendy thrown off the ballot.

"His campaign mailers are at least disingenuous and at most are downright false," Tendy said. "He distorts pictures. I'm not going to do that, I've never done that. I don't think it should be done. I won't get into the gutter with him."

Tendy denied being involved a mailer sent out that featured a caricature of Levy and Sheindlin and said it cost him votes.

"If that does happen again, it's not coming from me," Tendy said.

Levy issued a statement Thursday night claiming "false accusations, specious statements and negative innuendos swayed the election."

"My record as DA is bulletproof," Levy said. "Putnam County is the safest place to live, work, and raise a family in New York State. I am looking forward to the general election in November when all the voters of Putnam County will have a chance to have their voices heard."
