The effort will begin today Friday, March 13 and run through Tuesday, March 17. Drivers can expect a number of sobriety checkpoints, additional DWI patrols, underage drinking and sales to minors details during the campaign. State Police will also be ticketing distracted drivers using handheld electronic devices.
“The New York State Police would like everyone to have fun this St. Patrick’s Day weekend, but urge people to do it safely. If you plan on drinking please designate a sober driver," State Police Superintendent Joseph D’Amico said in a statement. "Impaired drivers can cause needless deaths and injuries. Together, we can keep New York State's roads among the safest in the nation.”
During the 2014 St. Patrick’s Day weekend enforcement effort, Troopers made 184 arrests for DWI and issued more than 11,000 tickets statewide.
