Joseph Nagy, 28, was driving northbound at a high rate of speed at approximately 6:20 p.m. when he clipped another northbound vehicle before hitting the center guard rail and running into another car. Debris from Nagy's vehicle flew over into the southbound lane and damaged another car traveling in the opposite direction, authorities said.
Nagy, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was ejected from his vehicle, police said. An open bottle of vodka, marijuana and prescription pills were also located in his vehicle and are suspected as contributing factors for the accident, according to police.
Nagy was airlifted to Westchester Medical Center where he was pronounced dead. The operator of one of the other vehicles hit by Nagy complained of back pain and was transported to the Putnam Hospital Center for evaluation, police said.
The Taconic State Parkway was closed both ways near Peekskill Hollow Road until approximately 3:30 a.m.
An autopsy was scheduled to be performed on Tuesday, Aug. 5, according to State Police.
