Small Fireworks Can Be Bought In Putnam, Rockland Until Jan. 2

They may not match up to the big boom of New Year’s displays seen around the world at midnight, but small fireworks such as sparklers and smoking devices can still be bought in Putnam and Rockland counties until Saturday, Jan. 2, according to a report in lohud.

Small, non-explosive, fireworks such as sparklers can illegally be sold in Rockland and Putnam counties for two short periods during the year: from July 1 to July 5, and from Dec. 26 through Jan. 2.

According to lohud, the state passed a law two years ago to allow the devices. Thirty-five counties in New York have since approved their sale, it said.

Still illegal are, other media reports said, any device that shoots up in the air, or shoots projectiles, such as Roman candles and bottle rockets. Sparklers with metal sticks are also verboten since the metal stays hot for a long time.

The lohud report said that the small stuff can only be sold or purchased from July 1 through July 5, and from Dec. 26 through Jan. 2.
