According to lohud, the state passed a law two years ago to allow the devices. Thirty-five counties in New York have since approved their sale, it said.
Still illegal are, other media reports said, any device that shoots up in the air, or shoots projectiles, such as Roman candles and bottle rockets. Sparklers with metal sticks are also verboten since the metal stays hot for a long time.
The lohud report said that the small stuff can only be sold or purchased from July 1 through July 5, and from Dec. 26 through Jan. 2.
