Panel Recommends $15 Minimum Wage For Fast-Food Workers

PUTNAM COUNTY, N.Y. -- A panel appointed by Gov. Andrew Cuomo has recommended the minimum wage for fast food workers be raised to $15 an hour on Wednesday.

The new wage would mean a pay increase of more than 70 percent for many fast food workers, who are currently earning the state minimum of $8.75 an hour.

The pay increase would first take place in New York City by 2018, then be implemented throughout the state by 2021, The New York Times reported.
