Victor Cerda was arrested Saturday, June 27, in a parking lot in the Town of Southeast, police said.
Acting on a tip that the suspect had been selling “large amounts” of narcotics to local drug dealers, an undercover officer with the county’s Narcotics Enforcement Unit made arrangements to meet with Cerda, the Sheriff’s Department said.
Police said that Cerda was taken into custody after he sold “a large quantity of heroin” to that officer. Assisting with the arrest were members of the NEU, the Bureau of Criminal Investigation and the Patrol Division, police said.
Cerda was charged with first-degree criminal sale of a controlled substance and third-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, both felonies. He faces up to 25 years in prison and fines up to $100,000 if found guilty of the most serious felony charge, police said.
Cerda was arraigned in Southeast Town Court before Justice Richard Vercollone and sent to the Putnam County Correctional Facility without bail.
The date of his pending court appearance was unknown at press time.
