Man Charged With Unlicensed Operation After Carmel Stop

PUTNAM COUNTY, N.Y. – A Danbury, Conn., man is facing a misdemeanor charge of unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, according to Putnam County Sheriff Donald B. Smith.

Deputy Sheriff Thomas Lee stopped a motorist who had committed a traffic violation about 11:47 p.m. Saturday on Route 6 in Carmel. According to the deputy, Luis C. Loja, 40, was driving while his privilege to operate a motor vehicle in the state of New York had been suspended.

Loja was charged with third-degree aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle.

Loja was processed at the Putnam County Correctional Facility and released after posting cash bail, according to the sheriff’s office. He is required to appear in Carmel Justice Court on Monday, Feb. 9.

According to the sheriff’s office, the defendant could face up to a year in jail and a fine of up to $1,000 if found guilty of the charge.
