This seminar, from 9 a.m. to noon at the hospital’s Michael T. Weber Auditorium, 670 Stoneleigh Ave., will allow participants to meet the robot and see first-hand how the da Vinci system works. Physicians from the Mount Kisco Medical Group and on the medical staff at Putnam Hospital Center will speak about the uses of the robot in urology, gynecology and general surgery.
Dr. Sheldon Axelrod, a urologist with Mount Kisco Medical Group and a medical staff member at Putnam Hospital Center, and urologist Dr. Mark Nogueira, will discuss the use of robotic surgery in prostate and renal cancers. Dr. Carl Calica will present the general surgical applications of the system and Dr. Janusz Rudnicki will share his experience in gynecological robotic surgery. There will be a question-and-answer period after each presentation. A continental breakfast will be served between 9 and 9:30 a.m.
“This instrument allows our surgeons to operate with greater range of motion and improved dexterity," said Axelrod.
"The surgeon further has improved visualization with high-definition 3-D imaging. The most important aspect is the advantages it gives to our patients. Robotic surgery typically allows for smaller incisions, less scarring, less postoperative pain, shorter hospital stay, faster recovery and less blood loss compared with other techniques.” Registration is not required but preferred.
