With the July 4 holiday approaching, lohud.com reports that Rockland and Putnam are two of the 37 counties in the state that are now allowing sparkler sales to adults, while Westchester officials have yet decided. A state law approved in 2014 allows each county to offer regulated sales around the New Year and July 4.
But fire and emergency workers, including statewide and local officials, are still cautioning people to forgo their own display in favor of the communitywide fireworks shows, noting the sparklers burn hot enough to cause burns and even deaths, lohud.com says.
