The convoy will gather at the Brewster Rest Area off I-684 at 3 p.m. The truck carrying the wall is expected to arrive at the rest stop at 3:30 p.m. The convoy will then lead the truck north on I-684 to exit 10 and take Route 6 west through the Village of Brewster, passing the Donald B. Smith campus at the corner of Route 6 and Old Route 6 at approximately 3:45 p.m.
Then the convoy will continue to Gleneida Avenue, pass the County Office Building, turn left onto Route 301 at approximately 3:55 p.m. It will travel through the causeway, make a right on to Gypsy Trail Road and arrive at the lower park just after 4 p.m.
People will be gathered at areas along the route welcoming the convoy with waving American flags. Once at the park, members of the convoy will join in a blessing of the exhibit.
The Traveling Wall is an 80 percent scale replica of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial and is the largest of the traveling wall replicas. The wall is arriving to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Vietnam War.
The display will be open 24 hours a day from the opening at noon Thursday through Sunday at 3 p.m. The opening ceremony will be held Thursday at 7 p.m. The closing ceremony will be held at noon on Sunday.
The closing ceremony Sunday will segue into the annual Gold Star Mother’s Day Observance at 1 p.m.
Putnam County Veterans Memorial Park is located at 201 Gypsy Trail Road, Carmel.
