The organization's Humane Law Enforcement Department went to the scene, which is near a Mobil station at 102 Route 6, on Sunday in response to a call. Two dead chickens were found in a cardboard box, along with candles a liver and a heart, according to the agency, which adds that another heart, potentially from a baby goat, was also found.
A veterinarian later confirmed that the chickens' necks had been snapped and that the heart and liver belonged with one of them, the agency reports.
"It appears that the animals were part of animal mutilation that took place at another location and then dumped in the Mobil Gas Station Parking Lot," at the Putnam County SPCA announced in a statement, "Although the possibility exists, there are currently no links connecting this incident to recent incidents in Westchester."
The agency gives a number to give reports, which is at 845-520-6915 and includes confidentiality.
