The carnival, held outside the firehouse by Route 6, serves as a fundraiser, according to Vincent Roberto Jr., president of the Fire Department. The money raised pays for items not covered by tax revenue given by the town of Carmel.
The carnival is also 100 years old, according to Roberto, and cancellation has been rare. The carnival has long served as a fundraising event; Roberto explained that money raised was used completely to support the Fire Department, which was before tax revenue was added.
The carnival was scheduled for two weekends this month. The Fire Department's next significant event comes on Aug. 23, when it will hold a parade. Close to 70 fire departments are coming, Roberto said. The parade, Roberto said, will start at 3 p.m. at the K-Mart shopping plaza and go to the firehouse.
