His owners, who didn’t wish to be identified, said the golden Labrador retriever vanished on Monday night from their Stoneleigh Avenue home.
The next day, the Blizzard of 2017 dumped several feet of snow on the region and family members had to suspend their search.
However, Buddy’s owners said Tuesday, once it was safe to go out again, they trekked through a nearby woods every day looking for the lost puppy.
During the height of the snowstorm a week ago, daytime temperatures hovered around 28 degrees, dropping to 14 degrees overnight.
Although they feared the worse, Buddy’s owners refused to give up hopes of finding their beloved pet.
On Friday, their Herculean efforts were rewarded: Buddy was found, cold, hungry, and with a slight leg injury, but alive. He was about a half-mile away from home in the woods.
They took him straight to the veterinarian, who bandaged him up, checked him out, and sent him home.
It only took about a day for Buddy to get back to his old self, his owners said.
He was “so happy to be home,” they said.
They were overjoyed as well, considering what could have happened during the blizzard.
“We got lucky,” Buddy’s folks said.
