The Stone is John Zorn's celebrated East Village performance sanctuary for new and cutting-edge music.
Biskin will be leading a different band each night. "The playlist spans over 20 years of compositions, including lots of new material I've written just for this occasion," he said. "This is the first time ever that I've had the opportunity of presenting a big-picture retro- and avantro-spective of my music, and I can honestly say the experience is both inspiring and daunting."
Biskin will collaborate with artists including Jeff Davis, Brian Drye, Ben Holmes, Tony Malaby, Kent McLagan, Nate Radley, Rob Schwimmer, Matt Wilson and more. The shows start at 8 p.m., and the music is kid-friendly -- so it could be part of an East Village family outing.
Here are a few highlights from the series:
Tuesday, April 12 -- Biskin will be unveiling a brand-new clarinet quartet, Reed Basket. It plays originals, Pee Wee Russell and Jelly Roll Morton tributes, covers of Mozart and Schubert, and some unexpected standards.
Wednesday, April 12 -- This performance will invoke the spirit of Alan Lomax, Biskin stated, as he plays with his new band, 16 Tons. "We reinterpret songs from Lomax's monumental anthology, 'The Folk Songs of North America,' with an unusual instrumentation of clarinet, drums and a choir of three trumpets."
Friday, April 15 -- Biskin will revisit music from his first album, "Dogmental."
