Keith Boddie, a Putnam Valley resident who is active with the Mohegan Fire Department, was in a car accident that left him slightly injured, but the family car damaged beyond repair. Though the generosity of others helped the Boddie family replace the car, the new one is not reliable and will be expensive to maintain.
Boddie needs needs a car to drive to work, get his wife, who has stage 4 breast cancer, to her doctors' appointments and to attend Fire/EMS calls in a district that cover 45 square miles.
"Even thought we don't know each other, we are drawn together by the bond of brotherhood," said Dave Kempter, who is promoting the Go Fund Me project on a Facebook page he administers for local emergency service workers . "When it matters most we got each other's backs no matter what."
The Go Fund Me page is seeking donations so the family can purchase a new car. The fundraising goal is $10,000.
"It's time to help the people who volunteer for others even when they themselves have trouble getting by," the request on the page says. "Please offer your financial support to a family that needs a reliable car to get around. Since the Boddie's are active members of the fire department and ambulance your life may literally depend on it so please help them out."
