Walk For A Cause: Help Raise Money For Ovarian And Breast Cancer

YORKTOWN, N.Y. -- As the weather cools and leaves slowly begin to change, one Westchester-based charity is getting ready for heat up for the season's biggest fundraiser. This October, Support Connection will host its Annual Support-A-Walk, benefitting those affected by breast and ovarian cancer.

Support Connection is gearing up for another Support-A-Walk in 2017 to help raise money for breast and ovarian cancer.

Based out of Yorktown Heights, the charity offers free counseling and other support services to women across the Hudson Valley and beyond fighting breast and ovarian cancer. Since its establishment in 1996, Support Connection has helped thousands of women and families coping with the challenges of a breast and ovarian cancer diagnosis.

Support-A-Walk is Support Connection’s most important annual fundraiser, with 88 cents of every dollar donated going directly towards free breast and ovarian cancer support services. Raising funds for the Support-A-Walk is easy, and fundraisers are encouraged to share their personal story and create an online fundraising page.

Sue Andersen, a breast cancer survivor from Cortlandt Manor who received help from Support Connection, is an ambassador for this year’s Support-A-Walk. Having participated in the walk every year since 2007, this year she will also walk in honor of her mom and her sister-in-law both of whom were diagnosed with breast cancer in 2016. “Everyone should participate in the Support-A-Walk because everyone knows someone affected by cancer," said Anderson. "We are so fortunate to have this wonderful organization right in our back yard. I’m happy to share my story so more people can learn about Support Connection and get the support they need."

Support-A-Walk is scheduled for Sunday, Oct. 1 at FDR Park in Yorktown Heights. To learn more about raising funds or to make a direct donation, click here. To contact Support Connection directly, call 914-962-6402 or email walk@supportconnection.org.
