'I Had Tears In My Eyes,' Local Teacher Returns To A Pain-Free Life After Double Knee Surgery

Teaching the next generation of chefs can be challenging enough, but doing so while raising a family and suffering from excruciating knee pain in both knees quickly became a recipe for disaster for one area woman.

"I work for a culinary school and I am constantly on my feet about six and a half hours of my eight-hour day," said Karen, a teacher who suffered from chronic knee pain. "I walk across campus to different locations and was just in constant pain." Between her painful knees and constant movement, Karen found herself at wit's end – both emotionally and physically.

"At the end of my workday I would go home and I would just have tears in my eyes," she said. "It came to the point that when I came home, I basically had to sign off and my husband had to step in and pick up the regular duties of running our kids here and there."

Realizing she couldn't live her life with reduced mobility and in constant knee pain, Karen sought the help of Northern Westchester Hospital's award-winning staff. Specifically, she met with Dr. David Yasgur, director of Quality and Outcomes at The Orthopedic and Spine Institute at Northern Westchester Hospital.

"When I came to see Dr. Yasgur, he told me I was a great candidate for a partial knee replacement," said Karen.

NWH offers patients a variety of minimally-invasive knee procedures, from ACL and meniscus repair to total knee replacement and arthroscopy. Recognized as one of the best performing hospitals by US News & World Report, Yasgur and the NWH knee team have helped countless Westchester residents return to a pain-free life sooner than they ever imagined.

"[At] Northern Westchester Hospital, I felt very welcomed,' said Karen. "They really took the time to explain knee replacement surgery, what was being done, and they put me at ease."  After undergoing a partial knee replacement surgery, she was back on her feet enjoying a renewed freedom and love of life.

Equally as important for Karen, finding a medical team that's personally invested in her well-being means the ultimate peace of mind. "I will continue to use Dr. Yasgur and Northern Westchester Hospital as my family's place for care."
