Tucked just off Route 52 on Chauncey Rd. behind Deli Land, Katherine's offers a little bit of everything, according to owner Katherine Doherty - a former Town of Kent Supervisor (one of Doherty's notable accomplishments was to get Arts on the Lake off the ground in 2010).
The store, which opened in July, is stocked with lotions, scarves, ponchos, hand bags jewelry, clothing and much more - and features unique items from at least 13 area artists.
Some of Katherine's more popular items include Crown Maple Syrup from Madava Farms in Dover, spices from Hyde Park, and Jams and Jellies from Georgia. The shop also has special teas, and Blue Olive Oil, which Doherty said has been a big seller.
"Everyone likes something different, so I try to have a little bit of everything, and try to make it affordable," Doherty told Daily Voice. "We stock merchandise from approximately 13 local artists, including everything from jewelry to crocheted headbands, soaps, glasses and photo prints."
Doherty's husband, who owns Doherty Electric, bought the building the two businesses occupy in 2010, and when Katherine Doherty opened her shop, she wanted to give local artists a space to offer their work.
"I wanted to include them," she said. "I wanted to share with the local artists, and people seem to love it.
"People tell me this is just what the area needed," Doherty added. "They love the different gifts, the variety, the homey feel. And they don't have to go to the mall - we wrap free."
Katherine's Gift Shop is located at 38 Chauncey Rd. in Carmel, and can be reached at 845-797-0372. For more info, check out their Facebook page.
