Owner Lindita Sutaj runs the place - with a little help from her friends (mom, uncle, sisters, and husband) - and she and her Dutchess-based family have been loving the experience.
"It's been really exciting, it's something that's your own," Sutaj told Daily Voice during a recent visit. "Nothing is handed to you, and this is something different - it's not an office. You're always meeting new people. I really like it a lot."
And customers seem to like the pizzeria's brick oven pie. "People say it reminds them of an old time pizzeria," Sutaj said. "From back in the day in Yonkers (where the family came from 20 years ago). A lot of people really like it... they say it's different from others in the area.
"We make a thin crust... crispy - like a city pie," she added. "I think that's what people love about it."
In addition to its many styles of gourmet pizza, the Cafe also serves wraps, calzones, three- and six-foot subs, sandwiches, and entrees.
"Response has been very good," Sutaj said. "So that makes you feel better about what you're doing."
Carmel Brick Oven Pizza & Cafe is located at 520 Rt. 52 in Lake Carmel, and can be reached at 845-200-7669.
