"When I first found out that I was going to need radiation therapy, my first concern was the fatigue that I had heard was often associated with radiation," she said. "Having two school-aged children at home, my first concern was, 'How am I going to be able to continue the busy schedule that we all have?'" she said. Thankfully for Jennifer and her family, the staff at the Bruce & Andrea Yablon Health & Wellness Program at Northern Westchester Hospital made her road to recovery a smooth one.
At the hospital's innovative treatment center, patients like Jennifer have access to a variety of health and wellness services designed to improve their experience. Serving as a complement to medical treatment, support is customized according to each patient's needs and in collaboration with the clinical care team. Services range from nutrition counseling to integrative therapies such as acupuncture and medical massage. Patients can also take advantage of complimentary yoga classes, meditation classes and mindful wellness services. The goal is to help patients reduce the stress and discomfort of living with cancer and undergoing treatment.
"I often used to joke when all my friends would say, ‘Oh, I feel so bad for you, you have to go through radiation,'" said Jennifer. "I used to say, ‘No, it feels more like going to a spa.' The services you receive at Northern Westchester Hospital through the Bruce & Andrea Yablon Cancer Health and Wellness Program are absolutely top notch."
