Students will work directly with Shakespeare scenes, gaining a better understanding of his language and rhetoric while also receiving one-on-one acting coaching from Spotlight Arts' new instructor, Jess Emerson.
This is a class aims to benefit students who are new to Shakespeare as well as experienced students who are looking for a challenge. The workshop will be held from 9 a.m.-3 p.m., Sunday to Tuesday, Feb.16, at the Studio Around the Corner, 67 Main St.
Emerson will also direct a junior workshop on Fridays at 4:30 for children ages 6-12 beginning on Friday. The end result is a full workshop production of the tale of "Alice in Wonderland Jr." with costumes, lighting, sound and scenery.
Emerson is a freelance actor, director and acting coach residing in New York City. She received dual bachelor's degrees in English and acting in 2012 from the University of New Hampshire, where she was also nominated for her acting at the Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival. The following year, Emerson served as an acting coach at New York's Broadway Artists' Alliance, where she worked with many of Broadway's casting directors, coaches and performers. She strives to access her students' creativity and confidence through scene study, character development and acting exercises.
