Bull & Barrel is near downtown Brewster. It is co-owned by Mahopac resident Wendy Wulkan, who has about 15 years of restaurant-owning experience, and Somers resident Rick Cipriani, who has craft beer business experience.
The two have a previous connection, as Cipriani noted that his brother and her husband are “best friends.”
Wulkan is also a co-owner of South Side Inn, which is in Mahopac. After the grand opening, she discussed aspects of the business, including its emphasis on offering American products and in brewing all draft beer on site.
Before the ribbon cutting, Wulkan noted the American-made products being carried, including vodka, bourbon and gin. The goal, according to Wulkan, is to “support as much Americans as possible.”
Wulkan and Cipriani will have different responsibilities. She is handling marketing and the restaurant side, while Cipriani is handling the craft beer side, along with the legal and administrative aspects.
The soft opening for Bull & Barrel occurred in March.
Bull & Barrel is at 988 Route 22, near downtown Brewster.
In attendance at the grand opening were Travis McVey, who served in the Marines and is founder of Heroes Vodka, and Jim Rathschmidt, a founder of United For The Troops, which helps to get items sent to soldiers.
About 25 percent of McVey's company's profits go to support veterans, and Rathschmidt said they're coming up on their 10,000th box of items sent to the troops.
