Retired Detective Shot To Death By Son In Affluent Long Island Neighborhood, Police Say A retired police detective was shot to death by his adult son in their shared home in an affluent Long Island neighborhood, police said.  John “Jack” Miller, 75, was found dead inside his Dix Hills residence on Bruno Lane on Wednesday morning, March 19, Suffolk County Police said.
