The projected timing for a potentially major hurricane taking aim at the US coast has been updated and is earlier than some initial projections. AccuWeather is forecasting a powerful Category 3 hurricane with maximum sustained wind gusts of 110 to 130 miles per hour to make landfall along the Gulf Coast on Thursday, Sept. 26, likely in the Big Bend on Florida's west coast. “This is expected to be a large hurricane with a major storm surge threat and impacts that will reach hundreds of miles inland from where this storm makes landfall,” said AccuWeather Chief Meteorologist Jon Porter. …

A line of storms is now moving across the region from west to east, producing drenching downpours that are flooding some areas. A radar image of the region above, from just before 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 6, shows severe storms marked in red. What could be one of the most active hurricane seasons ever now has its first named storm. Tropical Storm Alberto formed late Wednesday morning, June 19 as it moved across the western Gulf of Mexico. Heavy rain, coastal flooding, and gusty winds are forecast along the coasts of Texas and northeastern Mexico through Thursday, June 20. Tropical Storm Warnings have been issued in those areas.
