44-Year-Old Killed After Being Struck By Car While Working On Pickup Truck On Blue Point Road
A man who was working on a pickup truck on a Long Island roadway was killed after being struck by a car. It happened around 4:40 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 22, in Blue Point. A 54-year-old East Patchogue woman was driving a 2009 Hyundai Elantra southbound on Kennedy Avenue near Pine Street when the vehicle struck a man working on a 2006 Dodge Ram parked on the northbound side of the road. A decorated officer who served for nearly 40 years has died of complications from cancer, which he contracted during rescue and recovery efforts at Ground Zero. Nassau County Chief of Patrol Kevin G. Canavan, age 64, died on Sunday, June 30, according to his colleagues with the department. Canavan died of complications from the 9/11-related cancer.
