Police Chase, Fatal Shooting On Sunrise Highway In Massapequa Prompts State Investigation A police pursuit and fatal officer-involved shooting on a Long Island highway is the subject of a New York State Attorney General’s Office investigation. The incident happened on Sunrise Highway in Massapequa on Friday, Sept. 20. According to the AG’s office, officers with the NYPD, along with Freeport and Nassau County Police, were involved in a vehicle pursuit through Queens and Nassau counties. The chase ended when the suspect, Jeremy Bennett, stopped his car on the highway. During the ensuing encounter, officers opened fire, striking the man. Bennett, whose age and hometown were not…

Worker Airlifted Following Accident At Inwood Industrial Business An employee was hospitalized following an accident at a Long Island industrial business. Emergency crews in Inwood were called to the Inwood Material Terminal located on Sheridan Boulevard shortly after 8 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 17. Nassau County Police said a preliminary investigation found that a 49-year-old man fell off the platform of an excavator and landed on the ground. Medics at the scene treated the victim for back trauma before he was flown to a hospital. The man was conscious and alert throughout the ordeal, police said. The accident is under investigation.

Students At Kellenberg HS Forced To Wait Outside As Police Search For Bombs Police on Long Island say the bomb threat made against a high school was a hoax.  Kellenberg Memorial High School, at 1400 Glenn Curtiss Blvd., in Uniondale was alerted to the call just after 7 a.m., Nassau County authorities said.  The call was made anonymously to the 988 Lifeline, a suicide and crisis hotline. The caller claimed to have planted bombs around the school grounds.  Police and Homeland Security agents had teachers and students wait outside until they deemed the area safe.  Officers are investigating who made the call.
