Ulster County Man Makes Son Walk On Legos, Hits Him As Punishment: Police

A Hudson Valley man has been charged with endangering the welfare of a child following an investigation into allegations of abuse involving a 12-year-old child.

An investigation into potential child abuse involving Shane M. Beitl, 39, of Rosendale, was started on Friday, July 19, 2024, after receiving a report, according to Capt. Joseph Sciutto of the Ulster County Sheriff’s Office,

Sometime in February 2024, Beitl used his cell phone to record himself, forcing the child to step on plastic LEGO blocks with only socks on as a form of punishment, said Sciutto. 

Beitl is also accused of allegedly striking the child several times during the incident. 

Beitl was charged on Saturday, Jan. 7, for endangering the welfare of a child. He was released on an appearance ticket and is scheduled to appear in court on Tuesday, Jan. 21.

The investigation is ongoing, and no further details have been released.
