Man Drowns In Lake During Outing With Family In Region A man on an outing with his family at Harriman State Park drowned after jumping into the lake and swimming about 100 feet away. The incident occurred in Rockland County around 6:30 p.m., Sunday, Aug. 18, at Lake Sebago in Stony Point. According to Trooper Steven Nevel with the New York State Police, a preliminary investigation revealed that Carlos G. Gomez Tay, age 31, from Palisades Park, New Jersey, was with his family at the lake and went swimming.  Tay swam about 100 feet away from his family and started calling for help, Nevel said. Boy, 8, Dies After Boat Carrying Eight Flips Over In Area An 8-year-old boy drowned after being underwater for some time when a boat carrying seven children and one adult flipped over in Haverstraw Bay. The incident took place around 1:30 p.m., Friday, Oct. 18, about 100 feet off of Haverstraw Bay, said Rockland County Sheriff's Chief William Barbera. According to Barbera, the boat flipped over sending all eight occupants into the water. Most clung to the boat until help arrived, but the boy went underwater.
